Description: Responsibilities
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
Under supervision of Director and Principal Investigators in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures and specific instructions, she/he will perform routine and non-routine laboratory procedures, record tests, assist in laboratory management, and maintain equipment in working order.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision, she/he will perform a variety of in vitro experiments (e.g., cell cultures, extraction of DNA, RNA, and proteins, RT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, FACS) following established protocols and methodologies. Will assist in morphological techniques which include cryosectioning, and histological and immunohistochemical staining. Will also maintain mouse colonies and assist in various in vivo experiments. Will maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner. Will maintain basic records of methodologies and findings in a lab notebook. Will identify unusual findings and report them to the supervisor(s). Will participate in compliance with regulatory agencies and local hospital safety surveys and procedures including radiation surveys and chemical inventories.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in biological science preferred.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Must have sound understanding of laboratory policies, procedures and sterile technique. Must be well organized and have good manual dexterity. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals in a controlled environment.
