Job Description A highly technical professional position responsible for supporting NIBR-Cambridge discovery research studies by providing the highest standard of humane treatment and clinical care all animals housed within our multi-species, multi-building, multi-discipline, AAALAC International accredited research program.

Responsibilities:
. responsible for conduct of daily clinical rounds to triage and mange treatment of new clinical cases.
. responsible for assisting in management & conduct of the NIBR-Cambridge Pathogen Surveillance Monitoring Program.
. responsible for assisting in management & conduct of the NIBR-Cambridge Animal Import & Export Program.
. responsible for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines.
. responsible for identifying emerging technical & clinical procedures to proactively evolve the LAS Veterinary Service to reflect current trends in veterinary practice.
. responsible for pursing continuous learning/professional development opportunities and enhancing/expanding skill set.
. responsible for drafting & periodic review of LAS Operational, Technical & Veterinary-related SOPs.
. Performs other duties as may be required.
Minimum requirements Education:
. 2-year degree in Veterinary Sciences or related animal management field, 4-year Science degree, or an equivalent amount of prior experience required.
. Thorough understanding and comprehension of facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, and theories of veterinary sciences as they relate specifically to job performance and function in the laboratory animal research environment.
. Demonstrated commitment to pursuit of Continuing Education in the veterinary sciences (i.e. Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), AALAS LAT or LATg, and/or similar certification required).

Languages:
. English
. German (working knowledge highly desirable)

Experience:
. Minimum 3-5 years experience in a private, academic, or governmental clinical veterinary practice setting or laboratory animal program required.
. Prior knowledge and/or work experience with rodents in veterinary or vivarium operational (husbandry/animal facility management) setting highly desirable.
. Prior experience in technical or applied research involving laboratory animals highly desirable.

The qualified candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a focused commitment to providing humane, quality, and consistent veterinary medical care in accordance with all regulations pertaining to Laboratory Animal Care. Candidate must be reliable, independent, able to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment, and demonstrate a focus to attention to detail in providing quality and consistent results in the execution of all duties relating to the veterinary services. The ideal candidate must also be willing to demonstrate flexibility in work schedules (i.e. coverage over weekends, overnights, and/or holidays) by sharing responsibilities with other LAS staff to ensure 24-hour, 7-day per week emergency & clinical veterinary care program responsibilities as needed.
