In the Research Specialist role, works very independently under the PI in the areas of research projects, data base management, laboratory management and teaching of new lab personnel.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Researches, develops and execute study design under the PIs guidance.

2. Interprets research data.

3. Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for research development.

4. Help PI with scientific literature and reports to journal and meeting presentations.

5. Work with the PI on grant submission.

6. Instructs students, residents and research fellows in research directions and laboratory procedures necessary for carrying out experiments. Troubleshoots issues.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

* Ability to make independent, effective decisions

* Strong organizational and communication skills

* Ability to supervise and train staff effectively

* Strong database management and overall computer skills

* In-depth knowledge of the field of urological or cancer research

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):

Need to pass CITI or similar test as part of requirement for performing clinical studies

EDUCATION:

MA/MS/MPH, MD or PhD

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in a research related filed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

Trains laboratory staff. Possible oversight of research technician work.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

Possible oversight of research budgets of the laboratory.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties will be performed in a research laboratory. Will have access to designated office space, computer and telephone.
