Description:
General Overview

The Infusion Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant will have a broad based knowledge in the care of oncology patients in the outpatient setting. They will be responsible for first responder responsibilities and Infusion Unit coverage during Saturday and Holiday hours when the unit is open independent of the Cancer Center clinics. He/She will serve as a resource to patients, physician and nursing staff in order to ensure adequate coverage and continuity of care.

Schedule:

This is to cover the infusion unit from 8AM-6PM on Saturday's and the following holidays: Friday after Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, President's Day and MLK Day.

Responsibilities

The Infusion NP/PA will be responsible for the following:

Triage calls coming to Cancer Center from the hours of 8am-2pm and see patients in unit as deemed appropriate based on condition and chief complaint.

Performs and records the patient history and physical exam and discusses findings with the physician when appropriate.

Utilizes advanced nursing knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems.

Manages patients when presenting with new or acute complaints and triages as appropriate for discharge to home, transfer to the ED or inpatient admission.

Performs medically delegated aspects of patient care as agreed upon by nursing and medical administrators according to practice guidelines.

Collaborates with unit staff and physicians to facilitate a comprehensive plan of care and coordinate resources.

Writes orders which are in accord with current guidelines.

Facilitates visits for sick or add on patients when appropriate

Maintains and practices in accord with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations



Provides consultation to both nurses and physicians.

Serves as a resource to staff in area(s) of expertise.

Collaborates with unit staff, Clinical Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Specialists and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs.

Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.

Collaborates with nurse managers, clinical nurses and medical staff to plan, implement and evaluate pertinent change in practice and health care delivery.

Supports Clinical Research program as needed in evaluating patients for treatment or acute intervention as appropriate.

Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials.

Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure.

Identifies own learning needs and goals.

Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

Demonstrated competence in specialized area.

Qualifications

Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a registered nurse in the expanded role or physicians assistant

Current Certification as Adult, Family or Acute Care NP or Physicians Assistant

Masters Degree in Nursing or Degree from approved NCCPA Program

Must have experience in oncology as a nurse practitioner or physicians assistant
