Description: About Our Organization
The Laboratory for Molecular Medicine (LMM) is an integral component of the PartnersHealthcare Center for Personalized Genetic Medicine, an academic center with a mission to promote genetics and genomics in medicine. The LMM is located at 65 Landsdowne St., Cambridge, MA. It is a CLIA-approved molecular diagnostic lab that performs genetic testing for a variety of disorders.
General Overview
The senior molecular diagnostic technician organizes and performs routine tests, while providing general direction and guidance to other lab technicians.
Job Description
The clinical lab technician will organize and perform routine laboratory tests including but not limited to:
1) Extract and quantify DNA from blood and other tissue samples.
2) Perform gel electrophoresis and other techniques to analyze DNA and RNA products.
3) Perform PCR and DNA sequencing reactions.
4) Use robotics to perform repetitive laboratory techniques.
5) Learn how to use new instruments and implement their use in new tests.
6) Participate in lab meetings and generate ideas for improving efficiency and productivity in the labs operations.
7) Manages and organizes laboratory projects.
8) Create and update standard operating protocols.
9) Follow existing protocols and regulations to QC equipment and reagents.
10) Enter requisition information and other report related data into a computer system.
11) Independently troubleshoot abnormal results with minimal oversight and feedback.
12) Train technicians on existing platforms.
13) Mentor entry-level technicians.
14) Implement new infrastructures to the lab, including new technologies and platforms.
15) Act as liaison with other laboratories and scientific cores.
16) Give general technical guidance to other members of lab.
17) Communicates basic lab needs to Lab Manager for both technical and administrative issues.
18) Responsible for organizing and maintaining laboratory inventory.
19) Serve as lab Fire Safety Officer and Chemical Safety Officer.
20) Oversees the progress of clinical cases through the lab and troubleshoots difficult or atypical cases.
21) Participates in quality control/ quality assurance/ quality improvement programs including but not limited to: Proficiency testing, identifying and improving assay problems, maintaining log of atypical cases, etc.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics or related science field.
Requires 4+ years of molecular laboratory experience.
Masters degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics, or related science field is a plus.
Working Environment
May be exposed to disease-bearing specimens, hazardous chemicals or fumes, or other hazards normally associated with a clinical lab setting. Work environment may be noisy or crowded. Qualifications:
