Job Details:
The Medical Transcriptionist transcribes medical data from recorded dictation, sorts and distributes copies of transcribed reports as required. Performs other clerical duties as required and maintains the physical environment of the area.

Transcribes medical reports such as discharge summaries, histories and physical examinations, operative reports, consultations, EEGs, stress tests, E.R. reports, delivery notes, progress notes, and similar medical reports from recorded dictation.

Researches inquiries regarding: --Status of reports (dictated vs. transcribed) for physicians offices --Care Management requests for discharge summaries to facilitate discharges to SNF/ICF --Nursing Unit requests for reports

Ensures accurate spelling of medical terms and other words, correct punctuation and grammar in the transcribed reports, and makes the necessary correction without changing the sentence meaning.
Qualifications include: Graduation from high school. Typing rate of 60+ words per minute. Completion of a medical terminology course, as well as an anatomy and physiology course. Experience with computers, dictation and transcription equipment. Familiarity with word processing software. One to three years of medical transcription experience. Demonstrates an ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, an ability to set priorities, to exercise initiative and judgment, and to make decisions within the scope of assigned responsibility.
