Job Summary: This position provides an opportunity to work in a Materials Engineering/Manufacturing environment on Spacecraft and re-entry vehicle systems. Qualified candidates will possess experience in development and processing of engineered materials, specifically composites and/or ceramics. Work will involve a broad mix of process engineering, process development, experiments and transition to production activities for advanced materials processes. This position will support several contracts at TDS including development and fabrication of the Orion Spacecraft heat shield, components and materials for re-entry vehicles and aircraft structures. Candidates are expected to draw on their knowledge and experience working with composite materials to provide guidance to technicians. Guidance would include, but is not limited to, teaching, writing procedures and providing technical oversight in a production environment. Responsibilities: * Provide technical direction to technicians on the best practices for fabricating complex, manually labor intensive, processed materials. Teach and foster a learning environment. * Participate in the identification of new equipment that supports the fabrication processes on the floor, in an effort to improve efficiency and reduce operator time. * Conduct experiments and process development under the direction of a Materials Engineer. * Participate in continuous improvement activities and transition to production of new processes and materials. * Work with the Supervisor/leads to ensure compliance with TDS Quality System and to proved a safe and hazard free work place. Education: * Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred. Requirements: * 5-7 Years experience in a composites work environment. * Strong communication skills, basic computer proficiency and a proven technical and teaching ability. * Applicable experience include composites fabrication for aircraft, boats/spars and related fields. Specific knowledge is valued in the areas of vacuum bagging, honeycomb materials, bonding, laminating, oven and autoclave curing, surface preparation, painting, the use of carbon pre-preg materials, materials testing and basic machine shop fabrication processes. This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.
