Description: General Overview
Under the general director of the Pharmacy Specialist , the Lead Technician - OR oversees technicians and daily technical operations in the pharmacy to ensure adequate workflow for optimal drug delivery. Responsible for making decisions independently on a daily basis in order to keep all areas in the pharmacy running smoothly. If necessary, will assign assistance in areas of need. May be required to fill in any area in need of assistance. Available as a resource to answer questions within the pharmacy and outside the pharmacy regarding policies and procedures or any general query that employees may have about department protocol. Handles confidential information.
Major Duties
Ensures employees are accurately and efficiently doing their jobs.
Delegates workload appropriately.
Solves work-related problems that arise by utilizing the proper resources at hand or by referring to the appropriate colleague or administrative personnel.
Answers questions within the pharmacy and outside the pharmacy pertaining to policies and procedures or general query that employees may have about the department protocol.
Works in conjunction with administrative staff to resolve personnel issues.
Monitors employee job performance.
Provides feedback on annual employee performance appraisals.
Finds replacements in event of sick calls or assists in understaffed areas.
Schedules technicians in data entry, central, Omnicell and customer service areas.
Assist with hiring and firing of technicians.
Assists in dispensing of medications to nursing units for immediate patient use when necessary.
Assists with tasks such as refilling code carts, narcotic dispensing to ambulances/clinics when necessary.
Assists customer service technicians when telephone lines are backed up.
Assists with training new employees. Responsible for competence assessment of technicians in their areas.
Maintains clean and organized work areas.
Attends appropriate committee meetings.
Performs and assists in completion of quality assurance audits.
Assists pharmacists and other department staff maintain statistics and workload data.
Provides computer support by printing reports, labels and forms.
In Ambulatory Oncology Area: Works in conjunction with the Pharmacy Specialist for Operations and the Oncology Pharmacy supervisor to resolve personnel issues. Ensures that applicable State and Federal Regulations are followed by technicians working in the area. Performs and provides feedback on annual employee performance appraisals. Co-ordinates coverage for sick calls and assists in understaffed areas. Oversees scheduling and assignment of technicians in the Oncology Pharmacies. Serves as timekeeper for Y8 / Cox 1 in the Kronos system. Responsible for interviewing candidates for technician employment. Assists with training of new employees. Responsible for competence assessment of technicians in their areas. Responsible for maintaining clean and organized work areas, in compliance with applicable regulations. Responsible for routine environmental monitoring per established policies. Also maintains equipment and pertinent records. Facilitates regular technician meetings. Works with Pharmacy Fiscal Specialists to maintain inventory, inventory records, and internal charging procedures, and attend inventory meetings as required.
In Clinical Trials Area: Works in conjunction with the Pharmacy Specialist for Clinical Trials to resolve personnel issues; performs and provides feedback on annual employee performance appraisals. Co-ordinates coverage for sick calls and assists in understaffed areas. Oversees scheduling and assignment of technicians in the Research Pharmacies. Serves as timekeeper for all Research Pharmacy Personnel. Interviews candidates for technician Qualifications:
