Grad Intern - Pathology
Amgen's Pathology department at our Cambridge, MA location is looking for a veterinary student interested in a 10 - 12 week veterinary pathology internship. The incumbent will learn / assist with basic necropsy, tissue preparation, histology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques (both formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded and frozen formats). After demonstrating proficiency in these techniques, the intern will be assigned a project which may involve the following techniques: Proximity ligation assay: This technique is useful to detect two proteins bound in close proximity to one another. We may investigate the deposition of immune complexes in tissue sections, and/or the interaction of proteins in signaling pathways. Laser capture microdissection: As an alternative / additional project, the intern may harvest mRNA from specific cell populations in tissue sections via laser capture microdissection. The mRNA will subsequently be amplified and subjected to Taqman or microarray analysis.

Basic Qualifications Completed Bachelors degree in Biology or other scientific discipline & currently enrolled in veterinary school or a veterinary pathology Residency program
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: • Must be 18 years or older; • Must be a current full time student • Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time internship begins; • Must have not yet graduated; • Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university; • Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment. • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications • Interest in Veterinary Pathology as a career • Direct laboratory experience would be a bonus • The ideal candidate will be a student currently enrolled in veterinary school or a veterinarian currently enrolled in a veterinary pathology Residency with previous laboratory experience
